Say Something

from One Step Closer by Kyra Shaughnessy

/

lyrics

Shout a little louder now, I can't hear you over the sirens
helicopters overhead and all the silent people around me...
say something

but an image speaks a thousand words
so they'll put the camera in your face
as the undercover police insight a riot
and it comes up the news weeks later but for now they can deny it so
shout shout shout

all we can do is shout out
shout shout shout shout out for now...

sitting on the median next to a highway blocked by riot police
thinking about old times, wondering when I'm gonna see you again
always the same faces at our picnic demonstrations and I'm beginning to feel like being here is....

sigh...

Yes we are here to vent our frustrations,
to wait for the teargas with calm acceptance,
to run when it comes and dance to some reggae
and catch all our buses on time

we are all islands surrounded
we sit on the sidewalk, have lunch , throw some rocks
and catch all our buses on time

sitting on the median next to a graveyard full of riot police
thinking about old times, wondering when I'm gonna see you again
always the same faces at our picnic demonstrations and I'm beginning to feel like being here is....

meh...yeah...hmmm...

sigh...

and if this is what security means
security means I have to leave this country
if this is what prosperity means then bury me or carry me away

bury me or carry me away...

and I'm looking in the eyes of a man who's learned to see me as nothin'
I'm looking in the eyes of a man who's looking right through me
I'm looking in the eyes of a man who could've been you
I'm looking in the eyes of a man who could've been you...
could've been you
could've been you who
could've been who could've been
you...
